why did we play games

why is it as a child we are so interested and encouraged to play games? ion it was a great and effective way for us to develop our social skills where making friends and learning to take turns and share, also it was to help intellectually understand and simplify certain reasons of why we do some things and how, teachers and parents use games as an example in real life situations to get kids to understand the importance with some things. But was this the reason why we were so interested in playing games because it would impact on us as we got into the adult world? but i guess this is the same as asking why do we enjoy anything, what sparks our original interest and why is it there?

Hot or cold
i found out online that the game hot or cold can be used to teach kids dynamics within a music lesson.
the game was described that first you would select two students one which would leave the classroom until they were asked to come back inside, whilst the other student would hide a certain object in the classroom which would of been chosen to begin with. the rest of the students in the class would also know where this object is hidden, when the other student is asked to come back in to the classroom he has to now look for the object when doing so the rest of the students would be asked to sing a song of there choice and where they thought the student was looking close to the area where the object is hidden the students would sing the song louder and when they knew he was looking far away from the object is hidden they would sing quitter.

you can use this game to explain crescendos and diminuendos, piano and forte, pianissimo and fortissimo ect.

every game we were probably encouraged to play was learning and teaching tactics to help  all physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development needed throughout your life as we get older each of these elements become more enhanced in day to day life.

child development

child development every child has to go through. this process involves learning and mastering skills like, sitting, walking, talking, skipping and tying shoes.

children develop skills in five main development areas

cognitive development
this is the child's ability to solve problems.

social and emotional development
a child's ability to interact with others. including helping themselves and self control.

speech and language development
a child's ability to use and understand language.

fine motor skill development
a child's ability to use small muscles specifically there hands and fingers to pick up small objects.

gross motor skill development
a child's ability to use large muscles.

im also looking at the different ways kids dress
miss matched colourful and how adults now dress i can understand why our reactions and the way we act changes over the years but why is it the way we dressed have to change, is it because we dress what we think is socially appropriate or is it our tastes change and we no longer want to run around in a dress a wellies. can you imagine how it would be if people dressed like that everyday to work it would be hilarious, only it wouldn't, because if that was the way we wouldn't know any different and it wouldn't be strange or weird it would be the everyday norm.

with my volunteers i will be encouraging them to dress silly, how they think kids dress, and see what they would choose and why.

kids are not afraid of getting messy! as we get older we become so obsessed about the way we look and how others think, if we are in fashion. you don't seem to care as much what other people think when you are a child. if a chile wants to run around in a pair of willies with a dress they dont think twice about it.

in this image above you can see that this child looks normally dressed it is not weird to see a kid dressed like this. but would you wear tis with the age you are now? most people would say no. but why?

look at how differently you dress now compared to what you use to wear when you were little. why is it that suits and ties are seen as smart and more acceptable for a work environment?

Adults acting like kids

todays ways it seems like the only people who r acceptable to be seen playing or acting like a kid is parents. when having to encourage your own kids to play you seem to get more involved in play time.
but if any other adult were to be seen acting this way they would be judged very quickly as though it is such a bad thing to act this way. it would be seen as immature and stupid instead of living life to the full. reasons why people are so worried about what everyone else thinks. what is acceptable and what is normal.

looking at it if kids acted more grown up than the adult everyone views this as cute, which is true
but thinking of this on a more serious level i think kids need to play and be kids they have the rest of there lives to grow up.

thinking about it imagine if the roles really were opposite what if you were born a responsible adult and grew up to be a child.

Tesha Moore

Tesha Moore

What i love about Tesha Moore's artwork is that its so brightly textured and fun. her drawing and collages are so strange and weird to look at which is on the same sort of lines which i am trying to achieve. with her quirky but meaningful quotes i think is such a great contrast, its bright its bold its strange and pretty all at the same time. i like how all of her work has such a deep meaning behind it, and although sometimes it can be a very dark meaning she portrays it in such an acceptable balance with the way she uses her colours, shapes, and textures. Although most of he work is textiles base, i would still like to achieve the same sort of feel when people look at her work.

i will be thinking about different ways to lay my collage out, the colours to use to create an effective observation that will make people attracted but disturbed at the same time.

I also like how she can make something from an original collage piece, also how she can use house hold objects within her work. her work can sometimes reflect her life or just life in general, with so much detail it can leave you wondering what it all means, it can sometimes seem like a hidden metaphore, she lets her work speak for itself and this allows people to create there own meaning behind it.

she enjoys the process of her work more than her final outcome. she is inspired from children's  books to graphic design books. I enjoy her fantasy elements i think its a way for her to escape from everyday life. she has a variety of different doodles and patterns which i think makes her work more crafty and expresses a home made feel.

gilbert and george

Art for all is the belief that underpins gilbert and george's art.their trademark format is the large grid, a square or rectangular picture brocken into sections that becomes a unified field of signs and images. gilbert and george began working together in 1967 when they met at st martins school of art, and from the begining, in their films and living sculpture they appeared as figures in their own work. the artists believe that everything is potential subject matter for their work, and they have always addressed social issues, taboos and artistic connections. implicit in their woe is the idea that an artists sacrifice and personal investment is necessary  condition of art. they have depicted themselves as naked figures in their own work, recasting the male nude as something vulnerable and fragile rather than as a potent figure of strength. the backdrop and inspiration for much of their work is the east end of London where they have lived and worked. from street signs to ginkgo trees, from chewing gum stains on the pavements to vistas of urban grandeur and decay, their work is both an ongoing portrait of a city and a reflection on the human condition. working in series they have confronted many of the fundamental issues of existence. sex, religion, corruption, violence, hope, fear, racial tension, patriotism, addiction and death.

i think these two artist are a example i could use for when adults act like children where they allow there imagination thrive and never care what everyone else thinks. a lot like a children, that are not afraid to play and just be kids. the sort of role play which gilbert and geode express i think is very similar to when kids make up games where they make themselves certain characters to fit the role they want.

surrealism

Salvador DalĂ

he is best known for his bizarre and striking images in his surrealist art work. he attributed his love for everything that is glided and excessive. he was highly imaginative and also enjoyed indulging in unusual and grandiose behaviour. his eccentric manner and attention grabbing public actions sometimes drew more attention than his art work to the dismay of those who held his woe in high esteem. and the irritation of his critics.

freudin theory underpins his attempts of forging a formal and visual language capable of rendering his dreams and hallucinations. these account for some of the iconic and now ubiquitous images through which he achieved fame during his life time.  obsessive themes of eroticism, death, and decay permeate his work reflecting his familiarity with and synthesis of the psychoanalytical theories of his time. drawing on blatantly autobiographical material and childhood memories. his work is rife with often ready-interpeted symbolism, ranging from fetishes and animal imagery to religious symbols. he subscribed to surrealist Andre Bretons theory of automatism, but ultimately opted for a method of tapping the unconscious that he termed critical paranoia, a state in which one could cultivate delusion while maintaining one's sanity. paradoxically defined as a form of irrational knowledge, the paranoiac- critical method was applied by his contemporaries, mostly surrealists, to varied media, ranging from cinema to poetry to fashion.

i like his idea of imagination quite a lot of his work i think comes across as though it should be from a magical place which is the sort of effect i want to gain in my exhibition.

Fmp final piece

this is near the exit of my den i decided to hiring in photos from home of when me ,my brother and
sister were little playing with our parents, this was to show parents seem to be more accepted to play as they have kids and parent encourage there kids to play so ultimately they become part of the play time.

these are a few images showing what you would see above your head inside the den. i used two different set of fairy lights over the thin sheets. they were bright enough to light up inside and set a calming tone. i wanted people to feel sleepy so it would link back to the idea of being in a child's dream whilst they sleep after being read a fairy tale or a bedtime story.

to get out of my den i built a wide enough tunnel for people to get out. this was another way for me to force my viewers to get down to child size. i made it big enough for them to get out but tight enough of them to feel they were in a child's setting and mind.
throughout the den i brought in plenty of sheets and blankets and duvets to create lots of padding for it to be comfortable for people to get around on there hands and knees. also the sheets were very childish the den was covered in mini mouse and hello kitty!
i also built in a cardboard box tv so kids could pretend they are watching something. making there own house to live in.
you will also notice that around the corners of the den you will see that i have put around lots of children's toys and teddy's again reminding the viewers they are in a child's den.
i decided to make the den a little but of a maze so people wouldn't know what they would see until they turn the next corner. i used big sheets of cardboard to create the walls, before i added the wales it looked like i was trying to create a meditation room like the one i saw in lincoln. this way with the cardboard it makes it look very home made and crafty. also it enhanced the idea to make adults feel like they were in a small space. from how low we hung the sheet and then brought the walls in with the maze it made everyone feel like they were in a child's world.

you would of also noticed that i had set up a colouring table for a way to get people to interact with the den and to get them to play like a child.

in the cuntre of the dun above your head was hanging my beads and gems. in the sheet i had cut out a big circle where i had attached thick wire in the edges of the circle. this helped with hanging the sheet from the centre to bring it up but also the wire helped with ting my gems around the outskirts of the circle inside, creating a pretty attraction to the den like a baby mobile. i also draped over thin strips of colourful plastic.

this is what the den looked like from one end looking above your head. the lights created a calming pretty setting contrasted with all the atmosphere of a child setting.

this is what it looked like above looking at the den. with the lights draped over it also created the same mood setting with the rest of the room which you saw when you exit the den.
as the background noise we had a recording from when a few other classmates went to a play zone in lincoln. you could hear them running around laughing and shouting to one another. automatically when u crawled into the den you got a playful atmosphere.
