Fmp artist research for installation

Art Installation by

Dietrich Wegner uses opposites in sculpture and photograph that feed on friction between two conflicting ideas. when an image stands in limbo between associations it occupies a flexible place in our minds. he uses images that are safe and unsettling abject and beautiful. he has shown that a mushroom cloud can resemble a tree house. in other work such as  cumulous brand babies are covered in multicoloured tattoos in a meditation on how our identities evolve and how we declare them.

he often chooses materials that contradict an aspect of an image while striving towards a realistic depiction of the image.  a mushroom cloud is fluffy like synthetic cotton, yet a poly-fil mushroom cloud becomes fun and cosy. a blood splat is shiny and exciting, yet perhaps signifying something not so fun. both a poly-fill playhouse and a urethane blood splat are examples of material reflecting what a image looks like and contradicting the tone of what a subject feels like or means. sometimes the material choice does not both challenge or support an image in this case when the material either does one or the other the image itself creates limbo.

the ephemeral beauty of a mushroom cloud, is frightening how it floats for  minute delicate a blooming yet remains chaotic and utterly destructive. we experience a contradiction which our eyes enjoy and what our minds know.

especially attracted to kids, fun, cosy enjoyable and what we imagine would be in a magical land.

i think these examples of a playhouse would help with my ideas to building a children's den. seen as it would be where kids dream i think a floating cloud would be a perfect association with sleep and happy dreams which a child would have.
